If you’re gonna sing gospel, you’d
better keep it real. Insincerity can be spotted a mile
off.
Local jazz and gospel singer Leora Cashe is definitely
genuine on her latest CD, Inspiration, a collection of
15 songs beginning with the eighth century Irish hymn,
‘Be Thou My Vision’ and moving into Mahalia
Jackson’s ‘It Don’t Cost Very Much’.
The CD mellows for a few too many songs before tackling
the livelier ‘I Go To The Rock’.
Having honed her skills with the Universal
Gospel Choir and The Gospel Experience, Cashe has the
pipes to deliver the goods- even if not every song is
as strong and uplifting as the first two tracks.
