| Leora is accompanied on bass by
Russell Botten, and Tony Foster
on piano. Tony is also gaining a lot of attention
in Europe where he frequently performs as one of Canada’s
hardest swinging pianists. Russell played regularly
in the Linton Garner Trio and most recently, he is
featured on Seattles’ Jay Thomas’ latest
CD. Both Tony and Russell have performed with acclaimed
US jazz vocalist, Ernestine Anderson.Together, this
swingin’ combo serves up a mix of traditional
vocal jazz, new and old and sophisticated original
tunes in the tradition of the finest jazz vocalists
such as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. |
|
Leora was honored to be included in the stellar
line-up of Vancouver jazz musicians and vocalists
captured on the O’Doul’s Restaurant and
Bar CD, ‘Take Time’.
And as the liner notes say, "It’s a
great time to be a jazz fan in Vancouver, and this
collection confirms it." |

| Tony
Foster
29yr-old jazz pianist Tony
Foster was born and raised in North Vancouver,
BC, Canada. He received his initial musical training
early on in school bands where his main instrument
was the trumpet. His studies on the trumpet continued
until college, and it was not until this time that
his focus changed to piano. After playing with various
university ensembles on the piano (highlighted by
performances with guests such as jazz saxophone
legend Phil Woods), Foster
participated in a residency at the Banff Jazz Workshop
in 2000 where he studied and performed with notable
jazz artists including saxophonist David
Liebman, multi-instrumentalist Don
Thompson, pianist Kenny
Werner, and bassist Ray
Drummond.

Russell Botten

played sax, guitar and keyboard in various groups
before settling exclusively with the bass and his
favorite music, jazz. In 1983 he attended The Banff
School Of Fine Arts to study with Dave Holland and
Don Thompson. He also studied in the US with Ray
Brown, Gary Peacock
and John Clayton.
In 1990 he moved to Vancouver and toured Japan
and the US with jazz vocalist Ernestine
Anderson and did several concerts
and CBC broadcasts with Renee Rosnes
and Diana Krall. His more
recent credits include a CD with Seattle’s
Jay Thomas, a TV series
with Louise Rose, and
club dates with Herb Ellis, Bud Shank,
and Paul Horn. |

"There’s
something mysterious and sacred about the souls’
connection to music, and I wanted this CD to be
an honest reflection of our personal relationship
with the music. The album was recorded live off
the floor, with only background vocals overdubbed,
and many of the tracks are first takes. I dedicate
this album to the mystery and wonder that sustains
within us the miracle of love. Be inspired!"
